What percentage of shots feature lead singer?
The percentage of shots that show the lead singers is 39% of the time in the first minute of the video. This shows the video is mainly narrative.

How long are shots?
The shots are mostly 2 seconds long, but never more than 4 seconds. It has a mixture of slow and fast cutting rates with lots of fades.

How is camera movement incorporated to create pace?
There tends to be a lot of slow motion and tracking shots of the characters which creates the pace as it is fairly slow so it goes in time with the pace of the music. The still shots used also helps to slow down the piece as the only movement is from the actors or artists so it is more calm than if both were moving.

What other framing is used?
There seems to be a lot of quick black screens in between some clips which could suggest that a long time period has passed or it is to confuse the audience and wonder what is going to happen next in that scene of the video.

Rule of thirds?
Rule of thirds is used in this video fairly often in this video, but it is not necessarily a person that abides by this, but it could be an item such as an earphone bud to the left of the screen. Most of the rules of thirds is framed either at the top of the screen or to the left of it.

What transitions are used?
The transitions that are used are fades in and out, sometimes overlaying on the clip and a sudden short black screen in between each shot.

  1. Well done Heather, useful analysis and some good observations although you should consider the connotations of the techniques you mention, ie fades, rule of thirds
